In a surprising announcement, Midway Speedway track owner Chad Shipman decided to close the doors of the Crooksville, Ohio dirt track.
On the track's website, Shipman wrote, "My interests in these past few months have shifted in other directions and I just cant give the race track the time or the attention it needs to reach the next level."
The Midway Speedway weekly program consisted of super late models, e-mods, stock cars, Tri-State Racing Association-sanctioned 'hot mods', 4-cylinders and the mini-wedge class for kids ages 6 to 13.
The track will be for sale or lease until further notice.
"This will give someone with the passion, desire, and 100% commitment it takes to run a racing facility an opurtunity to take Midway Speedway to the next level in Motorsports where we all think it belongs," Shipman wrote.
With car counts down nationwide, it is expected that there will be similarly unfortunate news for other small, dirt tracks in the future.
