Last Saturday Night was a Hard Charging Spectacular at Auto City Speedway. The Auto Value Michigan Legends Series came out for their first race of the season.
The temperature was a brisk 30 degrees, but hard core Auto City fans bundled up and enjoyed the show as drivers Jake Thompson and Chad Lamson showed everyone how to move through traffic with the utmost of ease.
The Modifieds’ Scott Lamp ran in the number two spot for most of the 25-lap feature and then made an amazing move around the leader with seven laps to go and walked away with the win.
The Street Stocks were up next and what a show! Three wide in turn four of the final lap caused an unfortunate pile up, but Randy “Axle” Foley managed to slide right by for his first Street Stock Feature Win at Auto City.
“It (the win) feels super!” Foley said. “I won the heat and the feature tonight. It feels great!”
The Auto Value Michigan Legends Series were out for their first of two races at Auto City this season.
For those of you who are not familiar with this series:
“We (the Auto Value Michigan Legends Series Drivers) drive 1/5 scale of 1930’s and 40’s models,” Legends Drivers Dr.’s Ron and Kent Semlow said. “The cars have either a 1200 or 1250cc Yamaha engines with around 130hp. The drivers in our league are between 14 and 65 years of age. We run about 25 races per year on 10 different ¼ mile or 3/8 mile tracks.”
Matt Todd in the No. 8 Legend won the 30-lap feature.
Chad Lamson and his No. 888 Cadillac Seville gave fans a big thrill as he started ninth in the Pure Stocks feature, seventh in the Figure 8’s, and moved through both fields to score a pair of wins. Second place finisher Herman “The Herminator” Gross walked up to Lamson in the tech barn after the Pure Stock feature and shook his hand.
“Good run,” Gross said.
“Thanks,” Lamson said. “You, too. I didn’t think I was going to catch you tonight!”
Jake Thompson a14-year old Hornets driver wowed the crowd yet again with an incredible race from the back to take another feature win at Auto City Speedway.
Next week is a night you won’t want to miss at Auto City. That’s right! It’s the first Maximum Destruction of 2009 and it’s going to be World War III all night long.
There will be features from Hubbard’s Military Supply, World War III with the Hearld Pure Stocks, Auto City Super Stocks, Pure Stocks, Auto City 8’s, Buses and other “Novelty” races. Come out and enjoy the show!
