Maximum Destruction Rocks AC

Chills, Spills and Thrills is how the advertisement described Auto City Speedway’s night of Maximum Destruction last Saturday night and Auto City delivered exactly that!

There were Chain Gang Races, Figure 8 Bus Races, Figure 8 Trailer Races and so much more! The regular weekly shows from the Auto City Super Stocks, the Street Stocks, the Pure Stocks and the standard Figure 8 raced as well.

A local fan and long time Figure 8 Trailer Racer, Tim Missentzis bought an old S10 Pickup on Thursday for $200, a free trailer to hook on the back and headed to Auto City for the Maximum Destruction Event.

“I’ve raced 10 other Figure 8 Trailer events,” Tim said. “We run 10 laps on the figure 8 track and the last car with a trailer still attached is the winner.

I spent $200 on the truck and if I win I’ll get $300, so it’s not about the money. It’s just exciting to be out there knocking other trailers off. It’s fun!”

53 year racing veteran, Al Kukla, took his first turn around the track in more than two years in the Pure Stock Division.

“I haven’t raced in two years,” Al said. “I just recently won a battle with cancer and everyone wanted to see me out here again. The Pure Stocks are less expensive to run and I’m just out here to have a good time and give the crowd a good show.”

Kukla was laughing about the novelty Maximum Destruction races that evening.

“It’s Great!” Al said. “It’s Wild!”

The Auto City Super Stocks started the night off with a 40 Lap Feature. The battles for the top five spots led to a show of two wide racing at every turn.

Sam Coulter No. 04 and Dennis Rederstorf No. 25 looked for a way around the leader, Lonnie Saumier Jr. No. M15 for almost half the race. Coulter ran side by side with Saumier through all four turns of four laps around the track until he was able to overtake the No. M15 on the Front Stretch of the 18th Lap.

Coulter won the show with Saumier on his bumper and hard charger, Jeff Owens No. 65 made it up from the rear to place third.

“It was great too run side by side with Lonnie,” Coulter said. “He raced me clean. This class is so close a good draw before the start really helps.”

The 20 Lap Pure Stock Feature ended as Chad Lamson’s won his fifth feature in less than a week.

Lamson added another win to his weekly total in the Figure 8 show.

“I’ll take the wins as long as I can get them,” Lamson said. “They may not last long with Lonnie (Saumier, Jr.) out here.”

Lonnie ran triple duty at the track in the Pro Late Models, the Pure Stocks and the Figure 8’s taking second in two of the three.

Next week is the Springslinger Outlaw Late Model 100 Lap Event along with the “Bar’s Leak Figure 8 Stopper”, the Street Stocks, the Pure Stocks, the Hornets and the Auto City Figure 8’s.

Fans won’t want to miss it!
