With the track set to go for opening night, mother nature had something else in mind. Showers all morning and 30 plus mile per hour winds and even SNOW!!! Yes snow in May. Who would have thaught that could happen. The teams and fans along with 35 drivers all made there way out to the track and managed to get the show in by 9:30 p.m..
The late models were represented by 3 drivers, Josh Ware, Casey Shimel and Kim Zenker. Zenker would set fast tme but a broken axel after the dash race would sideline him for the rest of the evening. Josh Ware would take the heat and the feature win by nearly a quarter of the track. Talks are in the works for the division to add the limited late models to the card to run with the late models as a field filler.
The factory stock class was 4 cars strong with Todd Ferguson, Terry Bisson,"Little Larry" Young and Todd Jackson. These guys were bunched up the entire night door to door. Miller would take fast time honors and Jackson would complete the show with the heat, dash and Australian persuit. Feature finish: 1. Todd Jackson, 2. Todd Ferguson, 3. Larry Young, 4. Terry Bisson
The 4 cyliner class had 5 cars on hand, with a majority of them hailing from the Kinross Speedpark. Don Etcher would make a clean sweep of the show taking the heat, dash, Aussie and feature. The feature finish would be 1. Don Etcher, 2.Larry Miller, 3. Zach Gray, 4. Dan Autore, 5. Tim Gray. This was the first ever win for Don Etcher, and tonight looks like it will be a great preview of what is to come for him this season.
Pure stock action was 12 cars strong, with 3 of the cars having mechanical woes before the action hit the track. Fast time was set by Nathan Armhein. The lone heat was won by Barry "Bear" Glenn, the dash was won by Ryan Radjewski. Action in the heat race was crazy, the first lap saw the top 3 cars loop out in front of the entire field in turn 2. None of the cars were damaged and all were able to finish. The feature finish: 1. Stan Chaskey, 2.Randy Nash, 3. Kris Riley, 4. Barry Glen, 5. Barry Glenn, 6.Dave Morrell, 7. Don Etcher (DNF), 8.Tracy Prow (DNF), 9. Nathan Armhein (DNF). Ray Golladay and Rob Keen would not start the feature.
The Bomber class was an all out brawl on the track. Picture an enduro type event where the only time a caution flag or red flag is needed is if the driver is in harms way. Heat race action saw cars all over the place, including in the muddy infield. Steve Docherty would take fast time honors, Paul Klien would take the Dash and Aussie, but Billy Clement would take home the gold. The bomber class gets credit for the longest tow, as Todd VanBrocklin would join us all the way from Alberta Canada.
Just a reminder the Modifieds have been added to the card for May 23 paying $250 to win $100 to start the feature. Also The limited late models will be joined on their nights with the super late models to beef up the field a bit. The rules are very close with many of the area speedways and this is an effort to showcase one of the top divisions in the state. Talking with track owners Chad and Tracey Wescoat , they really want to give the fans the best show possible, and they are willing to give any class a shot as long as it takes a firm hold and the car counts increase along with the fan base. Promoting from a stand point of you support us, we will support you. With high car counts to start the season, especially since the weather was a bit off key, things got started off at a manageable pace, and looks to gain momentum in the near future.
So fans, pile on in, tell your family friends and anyone you can get a hold of. Get them out here and help support the best track in the north.
