Owner of Berlin Raceway, Mike Blackmer and promoter for the CRA racing series RJ Scott announced Berlin Raceway will be hosting "Rowdy's Revenge 251" on June 9th, 2010 and it might end up being a $25,000 payoff to the winner.
"Rowdy" is the nickname for NASCAR's Kyle Busch, one of the top stars on the series and one of the more polarizing figures in all of stock car racing, with fans either loving him or hating him and rarily is there a person with no opinion of Rowdy at all.
CRA Super Series officials were excited upon the opportunity offered to become the sanctioning body. The June 9 non-points special will feature a few altered race procedures, including double file restarts which have become a fan favorite at the Marne raceway. All CRA car rules will apply which are consistent with most template series across the country, including the Snowball Derby’s Blizzard Series. The payout will be determined on car count. The $25,000 is based on a 40-car count. It will be $20,000-to-win for 30-39 cars and $15,000 for a field with 29 cars or less.
Last summers' "Rowdy 100" was one of the bigger races of the year and everyone came away very happy from that event. It is a wonderful opportunity for local short track fans to see one of the bigger names in circle track racing make an appearance on the 9/16th mile long track in Marne.
Busch only participates in a limited number of short track events each year and the Great Lakes area was fortunate to pick up 3 appearances by Rowdy. Toledo Speedway (OH) and Winchester Speedway (IN) also saw Kyle Bush take on the locals in CRA sanctioned events.
“Everything that has come together in the past few weeks for our upcoming race season is very exciting! With Scott at Port City Racing coming onboard, really helps the entire racing community and we are just excited to play host,” said Michael Blackmer, President of Berlin Raceway. “We think we can hit the 40-car amount, and we are hoping we will draw some more big names for this race, we are also talking to some other guys, and we think it will be a great field.”
Blackmer said Keyser’s Port City Racing of Coopersville is helping sponsor the race, along with a number of other events in 2010. Busch, who won the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship this season and captured four Sprint Cup races, took fifth in last year’s CRA race at Berlin.
